| Dutch Blitz is a fast-paced, exciting card game that has been gracing the tables of families for years! The game was invented by a German immigrant, Werner Muller, who resided in Bucks County Pennsylvania. Not surprisingly, the game is illustrated in the Dutch motif, adding to its charm. A family friendly card game, it has remained popular with the Dutch community, Christian groups, and the Amish.
The game is used with specialized cards consisting of four different designs: pump, pail, plow, and carriage. There are a total of four decks, consisting of 40 cards each, and each deck contains 10 of each color (red, yellow, green, and blue). All players are laying cards in various piles at the same time, therefore speed is an important factor in this game. The center pile, called the "Dutch Piles," is the community pile where everyone discards their cards. Each player also has their own individual Post, Wood, and Blitz Piles.
The object of the game is score as many points as possible by playing cards on the Dutch Piles, and also being the first to empty your "Blitz Pile." Points are rewarded for each card a player discards in the Dutch Pile, and negative points are issued for cards left in the individual Blitz Piles. These rounds are continued until someone accumulates 100 points!
